Leadership

Eric M. Sarpong, Ph.D.
Founder and President
Dr. Eric Sarpong is a Co-founder of Empirics Economic Research (EER). Dr. Sarpong is a dynamic microeconomist with extensive experience in innovative Health Economics & Outcomes Research (HEOR) including Real-World Evidence (RWE), Decision Analytic Modeling for Health Technology Assessment (HTA), and Evidence Synthesis. He previously served as Director, Outcomes Research at Merck & Co. Inc., Senior Economist at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and Senior Research Scientist at Eli Lilly & Co.
Dr. Sarpong has experience teaching microeconomics and macroeconomics courses within the economics departments at Georgia State University and Indiana University. His research interests span Health Economics, Labor Economics, and Economics overall with a focus on the effects of differences in key right-hand side (RHS) variables on policy-relevant, clinically meaningful left-hand side (LHS) variables including health outcomes, health policy and labor market outcomes. Dr. Sarpong has extensive and in-depth expertise in the methods Decision Analytic Modeling, Evidence Synthesis and Applied Econometrics - the latter techniques ranging from Limited Dependent Variables Models (Logit, Probit, Multinomial Logit/Probit), Oaxaca-Blinder Decomposition Analysis, Duration or Survival Analysis (Nonparametric, Semi-parametric, Parametric), Quasi-Experimental Method such as Propensity Scores, Difference-in-Differences (D-i-D), Interrupted Time Series (ITS) to causal analyses using Instrumental Variables (IV) techniques.
Dr. Sarpong has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and serves as a referee for a number of peer reviewed journals. Dr. Sarpong received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies (AYSPS) at Georgia State University and B.B.A. in Accounting from Kennesaw State University.
